At the conclusion of a case, one party may wish to appeal a court’s decision. Appellate advocacy is quite different from trial advocacy and requires lawyers to prepare a written argument in advance for submission to the court, and present an oral argument to the appeal court. Our experience includes bringing appeals on behalf of our clients as well as defending appeals brought by the prosecution.
We have many years of experience doing appellate work, both before the Manitoba Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. In fact, our firm includes lawyers who have been invited by a former justice of the Supreme Court of Canada to sit on the Supreme Court Advocacy Institute and be available to help prepare lawyers for upcoming appearances before the highest court in the land.

We are gathered on Treaty One Territory, the traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene Peoples, and the Red River Métis. Acknowledging this truth is a small but important step in building relationships with Indigenous communities.
